Where does the time go?! We've been editing and shooting so much that the last few months have disappeared. The good news is that we now have something that looks very close to a film. With so much happening over the last month, there is a lot to be excited about. We've been talking about the premiere date and location of A Movement of Movement. We'll let you know as soon as it's official! This week we're packing our bags for Turkey where we'll be filming the final segment for the film. We will be filming with Mareile Paley at Pilates Retreat Asia, who will be showing us around the beautiful country. It's so exciting see how far the project has come. It's even more exciting to watch the rough cut so far. Marguerite Ogle at Pilates.about.com interviewed me a short time ago and the article was just published! Check it out! It captures the essence of the film so well. It also tells more about the progress, goals, and people behind the Movement!
CLICK HERE to read the article. It’s been a great few weeks getting acclimated to our temporary home in Germany. The editing is well underway, and the footage is beginning to share its story. The massive task of transcribing all of the interviews is complete, and now I’m actually piecing the film together. Although it’s exciting to be at this stage, there is still a long road of editing, shooting, and reediting to come. The nice thing now is that I have hours and hours of incredible footage and interviews to keep the project inspired through the long days and nights spend at the computer. Other than editing we’re still filming at a few more locations. Our next stop is in Paris in two weeks. À la prochaine! We've made it to Europe where the editing has begun! The latest news is on the soundtrack for the film. During the filming process we captured a lot of audio from various places in Pilates studios. We're taking this audio and incorporating it into the musical score for the film. The goal is to create a hybrid soundtrack that uses voices, music, and effects. It's very time consuming, so we've only been able to see the tip of the iceberg, but from what we've made, it is awesome! We can't wait to get more of it done and start combining the sound with the images. The official poster for A Movement of Movement is on its way to the printing press! We've been taking input from a number of designers and Pilates people, and it's finally done. For those who contributed $100 or more to the funding campaign, you can expect your 24" x 35" poster to arrive in January. If anyone else is interested in purchasing a poster for your home or studio, let us know! We will be adding a shopping section to the website with postcards, prints, posters, and eventually the film, A Movement of Movement. It's been snowing in Wyoming, but the heat from my editing suite has been keeping me toasty warm! Carrie and I would like to wish everyone a happy holidays! -Mark Today at 5:06 pm Eastern time, "A Movement of Movement" was officially funded! We would like to thank and congratulate everyone for all of the hard work that made this project possible. We can't tell you how excited we are to have found so many people who believe in the film like we do. Thanks to all of you, this powerful message about movement will reach thousands and maybe even millions of people worldwide. "A Movement of Movement" raised 109% of the goal! The Movement is in motion! You have been a part of history by contributing to the first ever documentary film dedicated purely to Pilates. Truly our best, Mark and Carrie Carrie and I just got home from a 6 day trek to Las Vegas where we were filming at the Pilates Method Alliance conference. A Movement of Movement is unraveling from an idea to a film right before our eyes. Having the chance to see so many people come together in the name of Pilates was incredible. Not only was it a very inspirational week, but it was also very visual. We filmed 9 more interviews with some very distinguished and notable members of the Pilates community. Make sure to hop on over to our You and Us section to see some of the people we met with. We also filmed some Pilates happening on the strip at night! The footage looks just as incredible as it was actually being there. A Movement of Movement is going to be filled with surprises like the Las Vegas Boulevard mat class. The fundraising is well underway and we’ve reached 13% of our goal. We only have 23 days to reach our goal though, or we don’t receive any of the funds. Thank you to everyone who has contributed! You are the ones that will make this film possible. If you are unable to contribute, please pass the link on to help spread the word. The movement of Pilates has a voice and we need to share it with the world. One of the things I love about being a documentary filmmaker is getting the opportunity to meet so many incredible people. This was definitely the case this week at The Pilates Center in Boulder, CO. I had heard a lot about The Pilates Center and talked to quite a few graduates, but nothing is like actually being there. On Monday morning we were greeted with excitement, encouragement, and hospitality. The Taylor sisters, Rachel and Amy, play an important role in the Pilates world and they were more than happy to share their perspective with us. They also arranged two full days of shooting for us. This was the official beginning of the filming for A Movement of Movement, and it was very fitting to start with such a perfected display of Classical Pilates. We shot advanced reformer classes, chair, pole, mat, and even had the opportunity to create some artistic shots. The footage is beautiful! The trip to Boulder was successful on so many levels. The story for A Movement of Movement is developing quickly through the interviews and research. We captured so many brilliant people displaying 2 full days of incredible movements. My perception about what the human body is capable of has expanded. One of the things I found most valuable was how willing everyone was to talk about their personal story. Pilates is a global phenomenon, but it’s home is inside each person who partakes in the method. Hearing each story was inspiring and educational. There’s always something powerful about connecting with someone on a level that is meaningful to both people in the conversation. During my time at The Pilates Center I felt the positive vibe of everyone there. It’s hard not to be inspired among such great people. It was a worthy start for such an far-reaching journey that has begun. Thank you so much to everyone at The Pilates Center! Don't forget to check the You and Us page for pictures! Our next stop is in Las Vegas for the PMA Annual Conference. If you’re going to be there, Carrie and I would love to meet you! We’re also launching the Kickstarter fundraising campaign on Monday in order to create this remarkable film. There are some great opportunities to become a part of A Movement of Movement with tons of exclusive rewards. --Mark After only a few days of announcing A Movement of Movement, we've received a huge amount of interest! My list of friends in the Pilates community is growing fast. This Friday I drove to Salt Lake City with Pilates instructors Michele Dorsey and Jana Weber. I had the opportunity to sit in on a class that Michele taught at the Streamline Bodyworks Pilates studio in the heart of Sugarhouse. The world works in mysterious ways, and I think the trip to Streamline is going to lead to some great opportunities. My goal was primarily to observe, but after talking with Eva Kauffman, who owns the studio, we decided that we'll be making our way back to Salt Lake in the near future to film. I'm excited to explore The Movement in SLC! As for now, The Pilates Center in Boulder, CO is our next stop. Ever since the first time I talked to Rachel about the film, I've been looking forward to meeting her, Amy, and everyone else at The Pilates Center. We have a full schedule of shooting interviews, classes, and even some creative exhibitions of movement for the film. As I immerse myself more and more into the world of Pilates, I am noticing a beautiful of art in the practice of Pilates. It's exciting to work with such talented, trained, and charismatic people. See you in Boulder! Mark |
